What are Limited Prints?

Limited prints are generally sought after by collectors as they are a source of art that assures the buyer that their purchases are produced in a limited number from the original source file. Once the limited production has reached its final print number, there will NEVER be another one like it produced.

Limited productions can run in as few as five to as many as a few thousand. The lower the range of the production, the higher the value of the individual piece. The value of the item is generally calculated on the work of the piece. The creator of the piece will consider the effort that was taken to capture or create the image, the overall quality and appeal of the image, the uniqueness of the image and the cost of production. The artist must also place a value on the piece that makes it worthy of a "limited production", because the creator of the image will no longer be able to print the piece that was offered in the limited production run. This aspect guarantees that the buyer will have a unique piece of art that only a few individuals in the world are able to own.

As an artist becomes more well known and the desire for their work increases collectors of the work also see an increase in the value of their limited or original pieces. From a stand point of an investment, you are helping to fund the passion of an artist by purchasing limited edition pieces, and the artist is able to continue to work on their "craft" enhancing the chance of more exposure to a larger audience and an increased value of earlier purchased works. In the end the "buyer" becomes an investor in the artist's growing experience, they receive a piece that will enhance the atmosphere of their home or business, and the greater chance for exposure to the artist's work will contribute to the demand of their work to a growing audience.

It is not unheard of for "budding" artists to have their earlier works that once sold for a few hundred dollars to be valued at several thousands of dollars in a few years.

NOTE: There has been much debate over the years concerning limited edition artwork. I came across an online article that provides a brief history and knowledge base details as it relates to the industry and history of limited edition artwork. I totally agree with the article's assessment and would like to reassure buyers of my work that I am in total control of all aspects of the production process from ordering, printing, shipping and securing the reliability of print runs.
