During this Christmas photo-shoot we had the opportunity to capture four adorable girls a few days before Christmas. This was a great photo set and I will never forget the issues we had and yet came out with some AMAZING images for the client and their families.It was a late evening shoot located at the parents house of our booking client. The home was in the Wolflin area in Amarillo. The setting was PERFECT and fully decked out with some adorable holiday decor. We began setting up our studio lights for the shoot, and immediately ran into problems. We were having syncing issues between our lights and camera and the fear set in that we were not going to get the images we or our clients were expecting. We had to think on our feet and began using an off camera and on camera flash to help provide the appropriate lighting for the shots. We began firing off a ton of shots from our camera hoping for the best and checking the histogram regularly on the LCD of the camera. All of our trust was on what we were seeing in the histogram at that point. In post-production we loaded the images onto our processing computer and were truly keeping our fingers crossed that the images we captured would satisfy our personal level of acceptable quality. After waiting a few moments we were able to see the amazing detail of the photographs in full quality. We were truly amazed at what we had and were ready to dive in and get to processing. We were in a hurry to get these images processed and to the client to make a deadline for Christmas cards. We were able to turn the images around within two days to our client. The image captured in this one photograph is still one of my favorite images we have taken to date. What I learned from this experience is the fact that in difficult settings we just put on our game faces, trust our instincts, training and experience and do the best we can. I hope the future will continue to provide us with optimal images even when the best conditions are not always in line with what we desire or plan.
